Travel Tuesday

The hiiiiiiiilllllls are aliiiiiiiiveeeeee...with the sound of muuuuuusiiiiiiiic...

Welcome to Austria!

I love that movie, and here we were, driving through the Alps where it was filmed. So I had a little sing-a-long on the bus, our tour manager was gracious enough to entertain us with some of the songs from the movie.

This was the first day we saw snow, we didn't see much snow on the trip and we never had snow at any of the places we were staying but on the drive from Munich to Innsbruck we saw snow, and it was beautiful. The sky was also perfect photography sky, most of my pictures are taken through the bus window, which is hardly ideal but I didn't want to miss the beautiful scenery so I just gave in and took photos like a real tourist.

We left Munich after visiting the concentration camp and then drove into the Alpine mountains and stopped in Tegernsee, on the edge of Germany, for lunch. It's a beautiful little lakeside town where we found a small local restaurant and had potato and beef stroganoff (not together) soup for lunch, it was the perfect lunch to match the cold white snow all around us.

After lunch we headed back into the mountains and stopped at the most beautiful lake, Achensee, to take pictures. From there we went to the Swarovski factory where we oohed and aahed at all the shiny things in the showroom, but didn't end up buying anything (we were still spending-shy at this point cuz we didn't really have much spending money, in Florence however we quickly forgot that!)

When we got into Innsbruck, our stop for the night, we went into the town centre/square area and just wandered around, drank glühwein and hot apple cider and listened to them playing Christmas Carols from the Golden Roof. It was a very peaceful, quiet evening that I really enjoyed. Innsbruck is a very quaint, pretty little town. That night we all just went straight to bed as we were still tried from our big Christmas night celebrations in Munich.
